In this session, panelists from the IDEHPUCP will present an overview of their project “Private Security in Peru: Towards the Introduction of International Human Rights Standards”, funded by the Voluntary Principles Association.
Panelists provided insights into emerging security and human rights risks relating to COVID-19 restrictions, government responses, unemployment/social unrest, artisanal mining and organized criminal activity.
The project will undertake analysis relating to the implementation of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR) that is sensitive to gender considerations and the unique human rights risks faced by vulnerable groups.
Panelists look at the role of the VPSHR and the ICoCA in providing effective human rights due diligence mechanisms to ensure that private security providers contracted by mining companies act responsibly.
