Human Rights in the Mining and Metals Industry: Integrating Human Rights Due Diligence into Corporate Risk Management Processes

Year:

Languages available: English

Source: ICMM

The guide introduces a range of available tools on risk management and aspects of human rights due diligence and aims to assist mining companies in identifying which of these may provide useful supporting guidance depending on circumstances. The tools are supported by several industry-related case studies. The studies focus on practices such as the use of global employee surveys, conflict assessment and effective stakeholder engagement. It does not prescribe a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to human rights due diligence but emphasises that companies need to ensure that their approach adequately responds to the local contexts in which they operate. The guide may be useful for people working in several corporate areas, including community relations, security, human resources, supplier and contractor management, social performance and external affairs, both at group and operational level.
