Year in Review: VPI Activities Report 2023-2024
The Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) is pleased to release its Activities Report covering notable accomplishments from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024. These efforts are well-aligned with the Initiative’s strategic objectives.
Request for Proposals – Stakeholder Mapping in Papua New Guinea
The Voluntary Principles Initiative issued a Call for Proposals for the development of a stakeholder mapping report in Papua New Guinea. The submission deadline is updated to August 22, 2024.
VPI Membership Application Window is Open Until September 15, 2024
Organizations interested in becoming a VPI Member need to submit their applications in writing by September 15, 2024, to applications@voluntaryprinciples.org. To be considered for VPI Membership, an applicant must demonstrate that they meet the entry criteria for the category they are applying to (i.e. Corporate, Government, NGO, or Observer).
2023 Annual Reports Are Now Available
The submission of an Annual Report is one of the core membership expectations as per the Governance Rules of the Voluntary Principles Initiative. All Full Members of the VPI are required to report annually on their efforts to implement the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. The 2023 Annual Reports from our Members are now available for view.
VPI 2024 Annual Plenary Welcomes New Members
The 2024 Annual Plenary Meeting of the Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI), took place in Washington, D.C. area, United States. A record number of organizations were accepted this year representing all pillars, including seven Engaged Members and three Full Members.
VPI Welcomes Mozambique as an Engaged Member
The Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) is pleased to announce the approval of the Republic of Mozambique as an Engaged Member of the Initiative. A provisional vote in favour of engaged membership took place in April 2024 and was ratified at the VPI Annual Plenary, held in May, 2024, in Washington, D.C., United States.
New Resources Available in Spanish
The VPI is pleased to add two new translated materials to the online Resource Library – the latest VPI “Guidance on Respecting the Rights of Human Rights Defenders”, and “10 Steps to Maintain Security in Compliance with Human Rights”. Both are now available in Spanish and freely accessible to the public.

VPI Participation at PDAC 2024 Convention
The VPI is pleased to once again be part of the upcoming Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention, the mining event taking place in Toronto, Canada, from March 3 to 6, 2024. We welcome industry professionals and stakeholders to visit us at our booth. Hard copies of recently launched materials and other useful tools will be available.
